What we collect and why

When you use our forms

The Contact and Sample Request forms collect what you enter: name, business email, company, country, phone (optional), product interest, order details, and your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry and prepare a quote or sample.

The guide and catalogue downloads, the private-label brief, and the Market Brief signup collect your business email, company, country and type of business — and, on the private-label brief only, the details of your project: target market, variety, format, pack size, volume, certifications required, launch date and Incoterm. Each of these forms asks you to agree before you send it. For a download, we use what you enter only to give you the document and to contact you about that request; for the private-label brief, only to respond to it; for the Market Brief, only to send you the quarterly market report.

With every form, we also keep the internet (IP) address it was sent from, so we can stop the same sender submitting more than a few times an hour. We don't use any of this for anything else, and we don't sell it.

When you interact with the site generally

If you accept Analytics in the cookie banner, we use Umami (a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool) to understand overall traffic — pages viewed, referring site, browser/device type, and country. We also record when one of a small number of buttons is pressed — a WhatsApp or email link, a document download, or the Facebook link — so we can tell which parts of the site are actually used. What is recorded is the button and the page it sat on, not who pressed it — unless you go on to send us an enquiry, as described next. When you leave a page, we also look up which organisation your internet (IP) address is registered to, by asking the regional internet registry responsible for it (for example RIPE NCC or AFRINIC) through its public lookup service. We keep the name of that network and a rough label for its type (a company network, an internet provider, or a mobile network). We do not keep your IP address itself — only a one-way scrambled form of it, for up to 30 days, so that the same address is not looked up twice. For most home and mobile connections the network belongs to your internet provider, not to your employer. Umami does not use tracking cookies and does not build a cross-site profile of you. Our own visit counter keeps two entries in your browser’s local storage, not cookies: tc-analytics-visitor, a random ID kept until you clear this site’s data, and tc-analytics-session, the current visit’s ID with the page you arrived on, the referring site, any campaign tags and your browser language, treated as ended after 30 minutes without activity. Both are removed if you withdraw consent.

If you accept Analytics, we also load Google Analytics, a service run by Google. Unlike Umami, it sets cookies in your browser — named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, and kept until two years after your most recent visit, because each visit renews them — so that it can recognise visits from the same browser. It sends Google the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, your device and browser details, and your approximate location, which Google works out from your internet (IP) address. Google handles this information on its own servers, which may be outside Egypt and outside your own country, under Google's own privacy policy. We use it to understand site traffic, and we do not send Google anything you type into our forms. When you send us an enquiry or request a guide, it records only that a form was sent and which kind it was (for example a quote or a sample request), not what you wrote.

If you don't accept, none of this loads at all — not even in a reduced form.

If you accepted Analytics and then send us an enquiry

If you accepted Analytics and then send us the Contact or Sample Request form, we link your enquiry to the analytics record of the visit you sent it from. Alongside your enquiry we can then see how you arrived at the site (for example a search engine, another website, or a campaign link), the pages you viewed, which of the buttons above you pressed, your device type, browser and country, and the name of the network you connected from, which is looked up from your internet (IP) address. Your browser keeps the same analytics identifier between visits, so your other recorded visits from that browser can be linked to your enquiry in the same way. We use this only to understand which sources bring real enquiries. If you did not accept Analytics, no link is made, and the Market Brief form is never linked. You can ask us to remove the link using the contact details below.

Your consent choice itself

When you make a cookie-consent choice, we log that event — timestamp, which categories you chose, which policy version applied, and how you made the choice (banner button or the preferences panel) — together with a one-way hashed device identifier (not your raw IP, and never reused as an analytics ID) so we can demonstrate what was agreed to if ever asked. This log entry itself is necessary to run the site responsibly and isn't a category you can opt out of.

If you become a tracked buyer contact

If you inquire about sourcing from us — by phone, email, at a trade event, or through this site's forms — our sales team may keep an internal record of that relationship: your name, company, contact details, and notes on our conversation, used to track the relationship and prepare quotes, invoices, or documents. Enquiries sent through this site's Contact and Sample Request forms are added to this record automatically. It is accessible only to our own staff, and is not shared externally. Exact retention and deletion timelines for this internal record are still under review; contact us using the details below if you'd like it removed.

Legal basis

Which legal basis applies to each type of processing above (contractual necessity, consent, legitimate interest, or something else under Egyptian law) is a question for counsel that has not yet been answered. We do not assert a specific legal basis on this page until that review is complete.

Third parties / sub-processors

Netlify (hosting and serverless functions), Neon (database), our self-hosted Umami instance (analytics, only if you consent), Google (Google Analytics, only if you consent), and, only if you consent to analytics, the regional internet registries (such as RIPE NCC, AFRINIC and ARIN), which receive your IP address when we look up the network it belongs to. We do not share your information with any other third party except where needed to fulfill your specific request (for example, a courier for a sample shipment). If you click to open our Facebook feed on the homepage, Meta (Facebook's parent company) loads its own widget directly in your browser at that point — only if you click, never automatically — and Meta's own privacy practices apply to that interaction from there, outside our control.

Your rights and how to exercise them

You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw marketing consent, or change your cookie preferences at any time. Email sales@olivesegypt.com for any of these. To stop being contacted you do not need to email anyone: use the unsubscribe page, which takes effect immediately. That stops contact; it does not by itself delete records of a quotation, sample or order you already placed, which we keep in order to do the work you asked for. We haven't published a specific response-time guarantee (e.g. a number of days) because that depends on a legal question that hasn't been answered yet — we will act on your request as promptly as we reasonably can.

Managing cookie settings

Use "Cookie settings" in the footer of any page, beside Privacy, at any time to change your choice. Withdrawing Analytics consent stops any further analytics collection from that point forward, removes the Google Analytics cookies from your browser, and removes the visit counter’s two entries.
